Languages in the CommunityAt Hove Park our links with the local community play a significant role in how we operate as a school and Language College.  We aim to develop our students as increasingly responsible young citizens. We want them to have the experience, skills and understanding to make a positive contribution to community cohesion both locally and globally.

Supplementary Schools at Hove Park

Arabic Sudanese Coptic Association Saturday School

We have a strong and productive working partnership with the Arabic Sudanese Coptic Association who run Saturday Arabic lessons at our Nevill Campus (www.sudanesecoptic.com). This year the Language College and the Arabic Sudanese Coptic Association have worked to train teachers in the use of ICT in the classroom as well as assist in resourcing the Arabic programme.

This link has also provided learners from Hove Park, especially bi-lingual students, with the opportunity to gain a qualification in Arabic through Asset Languages (for further information please see www.assetlanguages.org.uk). All Year 7 students at Hove Park benefit from taster sessions in Arabic led by teachers from the Arabic Sudanese Coptic Association.  They also learn about Arabic culture.

For further information regarding learning Arabic at the School, please contact Mr Abadeer Azir on abadeer@sudanesecoptic.com.

Les Franglophones

Les Franglophones is a bi-lingual school for French primary school children in the local area.  They meet every Thursday at the Nevill Campus from 3.30 – 4.30pm. The rationale behind the school is to improve confidence in the spoken language through play and in a fully immersive French environment. For further details please contact Anisa Hamed or Gabrielle Ellin on groupefrancophone2007@yahoo.co.uk

Adult Education Classes

On Fridays Hove Park runs a GCSE Spanish class for adults from 3.30 – 4.30pm at the Nevill Campus.

We are hoping to extend our range of adult education languages classes in 2010 and would appreciate feedback from you about which languages you would like to learn. If you are interested in taking a language course with us, please contact Mrs Lynda Heasman on 01273 294976.
