Languages in the CommunityPlease note that costs for all of our clubs and classes are subsidised by the Language College.

Primary:

Hove Park School's Children's Language Clubs offer a wonderful opportunity for children aged 6-11 to learn to speak languages and understand some of the different cultures that surround us. The clubs are run by experienced, qualified teachers and are designed to be fun with lots of hands-on activities including games, artwork and cooking. Languages include French, Spanish, Japanese and British Sign Language. For an application form and further course details, please click the links below.

Adults:

For adults there is an after school Spanish GCSE between 3.30pm and 4.30pm on Fridays at the Nevill site. Lessons are free to staff and to anyone from the local community – everyone is welcome! Every Wednesday there is an Italian beginners class at Nevill site every from 3.15-4.15pm. Again these classes are free and are open to all teaching staff and the local community.

Key Stage 3:

At Key Stage 3 we offer after school classes in Chinese Mandarin, Japanese and Farsi. In 2010 we are intending to extend our range of languages to include Arabic, French and Spanish. We also run a very successful Italian Language Lunchtime Club every Thursday between 12.40 and 13.10 in Room 19 at the Valley site.

Key Stage 4:

At Key Stage 4 we offer after school Japanese lessons; the course builds on what has been learnt at Key Stage 3 and can lead to accreditation in the language by the end of Year 11. Chinese Mandarin booster lessons for KS4 students are provided for students already studying Chinese at Key Stage 4. French GCSE is offered to students on Fridays after school.
