Mr Hunting, Ms Schofield, Ms Ahmed and Ms Gale accompanied a group of forty-four year 9 students on the 18th June to the Houses of Parliament for their PRE course in Civic Values. The students visited the 1000 year old Westminster Hall, viewed debates from the public galleries of the Houses of Lord and Commons and had the chance to create their own party manifesto, vote and elect MPs and a Prime Minister in a mock election. This took place in seminars in the Education Centre. Peter Kyle then joined the students for a Q&A where he shared his own political and family background, took questions on Brexit and the changes he would make to the style of government, m if given the chance.
One student said: “it was really inspiring to listen to Mr Kyle. Inside Parliament is intimidating but very beautiful. I feel I’m more politically aware now”.
Many thanks to all the staff who accompanied them and made it possible back at school!
