Madagascan hissing cockroaches arrive in lab 29

This week at Jr. STEM club students were given the task of finding out about these fascinating insects. Each group were given just an image of the cockroach and had to find out lots of useful information such as their common and scientific name, what they eat/drink, how long they live for and how to care for them.

Students were then surprised when I told them we had seven which were going to be making their new home in the Biorbair. The students did some great research this week and some loved handling these unusual, not so little invertebrates.

Students also found out cockroaches can live for a week without a head and were around before the dinosaurs. Amazing!
