HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE

"Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us every day" - Sally Koch

Are you interested in working with people? Are you interested in a career in one of the most important professions in the world? Society would not function without the men and women who work in the Health and Social Care Sector. Where would YOU be without medical care, social care or health care? What would happen if there were no early years nurseries or schools?

Nursing, Early Years Teaching, Nursery Manager, Nursery Nurse, Physiotherapist, Radiographer, Midwife, Maternity assistant, Careworker, Social Worker, Paramedic - these are just a few of the 78 careers available within the Health & Social Care sectors. If you are interested in the uniformed services, our courses will be extremely beneficial.

Health, Social Care and Early Years at Hove Park School is taught within an exciting and supportive environment. Throughout, great emphasis is placed upon individual achievement, practical application and activities which relate theory to practice.

Work experience is student centred and students are encouraged to suggest their own contacts where possible. Hove Park School has excellent links with the LEA Education Business Partnership, Brighton Hospitals Trust, Sussex University , NHSU and Junior Scholarships as well as Sussex and Surrey Strategic Health Authority.

Outstanding results

The results are out and we're pleased to reveal its been another successful year for Hove Park . Our KS4 results saw 51% of students gaining 5 A*-C GCSE's, an increase of 9% over last years results and 21% over the last four years! Those achieving 5 A*-C GCSE's including English and Maths also increased by 3% to 37%. With 91% of our students receiving 5 A*-G including English and Maths.

Our students average points score was 343, an increase of 36 points over 2007 and 55 over 2004, meaning students are getting higher grades and in more subjects.

Hove Park met and exceeded all our targets set. The results are likely to place us inside the top 20 – 25% of schools in the UK on Value-Added measures, which take into account the prior achievement and background and expected performance of the students in the year group.

As a Specialist Language College we are very proud to say that the combined language A*-C was 56%.  This is a truly noteworthy achievement.  It sets us apart from many schools across the UK who stripped languages from their curriculum due to the difficulty in obtaining good pass grades in these subjects.  Nationally there were 158,242 less language entries than last year, compounding the decline that has been evident for several years.

These results testify to teachers' and students' enthusiasm, commitment, talent and sheer hard work! Congratulations!
