Hove Park is the only school in Brighton and Hove to have been awarded specialist status as a Language Specialist School . This means that we are one of about 200 schools in the UK to receive substantial extra funds from the government to develop our expertise in teaching a wide range of languages and to promote international cultural understanding. Our aim is to impart to our students an informed view of the world and the skills they need to communicate across international barriers.
We have a strong team of well qualified staff (including several native speakers), expert in teaching two or more European languages each supported by Foreign Language Assistants, as well as specialists in our local community languages. We offer an exceptional choice of languages - our students take two languages from year 7 onwards: French with a choice of Spanish, German, or Italian. Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Japanese are taught in extra curricular extension classes and within the Sixth Form Enrichment Programme.
Our School has excellent facilities for language learning on both sites including a new £1 million language Centre on the Nevill Campus. The additional funding has enabled us to invest generously in learning technology creating three additional I.T. rooms, a digital editing suite and in providing more computers for the Valley Campus library and Learning Support room - altogether an extra 110 PC workstations.

Outstanding results
The results are out and we're pleased to reveal its been another successful year for Hove Park . Our KS4 results saw 51% of students gaining 5 A*-C GCSE's, an increase of 9% over last years results and 21% over the last four years! Those achieving 5 A*-C GCSE's including English and Maths also increased by 3% to 37%. With 91% of our students receiving 5 A*-G including English and Maths.
Our students average points score was 343, an increase of 36 points over 2007 and 55 over 2004, meaning students are getting higher grades and in more subjects.
Hove Park met and exceeded all our targets set. The results are likely to place us inside the top 20 – 25% of schools in the UK on Value-Added measures, which take into account the prior achievement and background and expected performance of the students in the year group.
As a Specialist Language College we are very proud to say that the combined language A*-C was 56%. This is a truly noteworthy achievement. It sets us apart from many schools across the UK who stripped languages from their curriculum due to the difficulty in obtaining a good pass grade in. Nationally there were 158,242 less language entries than last year, compounding the decline that has been evident for several years.
These results testify to teachers' and students' enthusiasm, commitment, talent and sheer hard work! Congratulations!
