A whole education

A school is more than just a place where students come to learn. It is also a place where a community develops and thrives. It is a place where we come together to support each other achieve whether it is in the classroom learning, on the sports field competing or on the stage performing, we know that success comes from us all working together.

Student progress will always remain a key priority because outcomes so often dictate future pathways and opportunities for young people. Having been again judged by Ofsted as a ‘good’ school, we continue to reflect on the structures and routines that we expect to see in every lesson. Exploring the ways we teach to ensure we drive improvement and our ambition to be ‘outstanding’ at the next inspection.

Our place on Microsoft’s Showcase Schools programme provides significant opportunities to innovate and explore digital pedagogy - both at Hove Park but also within our community and beyond. Our Wellbeing at School award (2023) demonstrates an ethos focused on ensuring all students feel card for and supported throughout their time with us.

Our curriculum has been planned and developed to provide a whole education for all students. When we describe our curriculum we are not just talking about the sequencing of lessons and subjects across the Key Stages but also the half termly enrichment days and extra-curricular provision that together enrich and broaden a student’s time at Hove Park. A learning journey that provides a traditional foundation at Key Stage 3 from which students can build on individual strengths. We are ambitious for all our students and expect them, where appropriate to retain a breadth to their studies through the study of EBACC subjects and the use of our enrichment days.

The final part of my vision for our school relates very much about the school experience each and every student will have. It is about identifying the skills, values and attributes that we believe students should develop during their time with us and the things they will see, hear, try and explore at both KS3 and KS4.

It is an exciting time to be part of Hove Park School as we continue to shape our future and the way we support all students to grow and achieve.

Jim Roberts, Head Teacher

GCSE and A Level Results 2023

By Hove Park School 24 Aug, 2023
This year Hove Park School are celebrating another set of excellent GCSE results! The staff at the school would like to congratulate our students for the hard work that has seen so many achieve success in their GCSEs. They can now celebrate gaining the qualifications that will take them on to the next stage of their education at sixth form or college! Once again, the exam results of students at Hove Park School are above the national average, with 71% of all grades marked as passes at grade 4 and above, compared to 68% nationally. The proportion of top grades at Hove Park is also above the national average, with 23% marked as grade 7 or above, compared with 22% nationally. Head teacher Jim Roberts praised the hard work of both the students and staff. He said: ‘I am very proud of the students and their achievements. The discussion about falling GCSE pass rates across the country as a whole should not distract us from acknowledging and celebrating their success. These results are a true reflection of student commitment to their studies and high-quality teaching. We wish them all the very best and look forward to hearing about all their future successes’ Brighton and Hove Secondary Headteachers are jointly celebrating the achievements of our students. ‘Schools have worked in partnership, closely and collaboratively, to ensure that every child in our city has access to a good education and is able to make strong progress. We take collective responsibility for a set of exams results that reflect great levels of attainment and achievement across all schools in Brighton and Hove. Today’s results reflect the hard work and tenacity of a fantastic group of students, and an unerring commitment from all schools to joint practice development and partnership for the benefit of every young person in our city. We are extremely proud of the ‘Class of 2023' and wish them all the very best for the future.’

Our 6th form students received their exam results today and everyone at Hove Park School would like to congratulate them on their achievements! Their accomplishments will allow them to move on to the next step of their career pathways, whether that is university, an apprenticeship, or straight into the world of work. Individual success stories include…. Bernadette – Has been accepted on a degree course at Brighton University to study English Language and Literature Gracie – Has already started a Level 3 apprenticeship in childcare Louisa – Has been accepted on a degree course at the University of Chichester to study History and Creative Writing Nye – Has started a digital media apprenticeship with a local company We are very proud of all our students hard work, but also the resilience they have shown over the last couple of years. Many students who took exams this year were unable to sit GCSEs in 2021 and so this summer’s exams were their first experience of external assessments. Head teacher Jim Roberts praised both students and staff. He said: ‘I would like to congratulate all our students and commend them on their achievements. Our aim at Hove Park 6th Form is to help students move forwards and take the next step in their chosen career path. These results reflect our students’ hard work and the high-quality teaching and pastoral support provided to them by the school. We wish them all the very best and look forward to hearing about their future successes.’

I just wanted to pass on my thanks to you and your staff for the sterling effort you are making to keep all of our children’s education going. These are unprecedented times and none of us had time to plan for this! I am so impressed at the school, it’s community and the kindness that is being shown.

My daughter is just entering Year 8 and I have been very impressed with how Hove Park has handled the whole process, doing so with the maximum of care and the minimum of fuss to make life as normal as possible for the pupils during this testing time.

Open Evening - October 5th 2023

We are delighted to be able to invite you to attend this year’s open evening in person. To ensure that as many as possible of those who wish to attend are able to do so it is essential that you book and stick strictly to an hour-long visit. At your allotted time you will have an opportunity to listen to the Head teacher, Mr Roberts’ presentation. Afterwards families will have a further 45 minutes to speak to staff and students in the various different subject areas around the campus. Families will need to book their place using the Eventbrite platform and links below. So we can manage the numbers of people moving around the campus, families should arrive and go straight into the presentation, just before their allotted time.

Open mornings

Our Open Mornings include a short presentation in the Learning Resource Centre with our Head of Campus. This will be followed by a guided tour of the campus led by our Year 8 Every Child Should Student Ambassadors and includes the opportunity to view lessons in action with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. We will be limiting the numbers attending each session and ask parents/carers to book their place through the Eventbrite platform using the links below.

Year 6 Taster Sessions

We will be running activity taster sessions on Monday 2nd, Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th October on our Valley Campus between 3.45pm to 4.45pm. We are providing a variety of sessions for Year 6’s to come and familiarise themselves with our school site as well as meet staff and get a true experience of being a Hove Park student. Year 6’s can sign up to one session per afternoon and these can be booked via Eventbrite on the link below.

We have 6 academic faculties

Each has created a short video to introduce their faculty. We’ve also included an individual e-mail address that you can use to ask curriculum specific questions directly to the Head of Faculty.
