What a fantastic Fun Run we had last week! A huge thank you to Hangleton Rangers Football Club, based in Hove, for sponsoring our event and providing the brilliant trophies for our winners. Congratulations to Willow and Walter from KS3, and Flynn and Ava-Lim from KS4, who all took home a trophy for their outstanding efforts.
A massive well done to all 300 runners who participated; every single one of you earned a fabulous medal for your fantastic achievement! We'd also like to extend our gratitude to our very own catering company, Innovate, for supplying delicious flapjacks and refreshing oranges, and to Tesco for donating bottles of water to keep everyone hydrated. Thank you to everyone who made the Fun Run such a success!
On Wednesday, our fantastic Year 9 and 10 Sports Leaders headed to Hangleton Primary School to help run the Hove and Portslade primary netball tournament. They welcomed 13 teams, handed out information packs, umpired matches, kept scores and guided schools to the right courts. Despite freezing temperatures and even a hail shower, they stayed enthusiastic, professional and supportive throughout. Staff were full of praise for how brilliantly they represented the school and have already asked if our Sports Leaders can help at future events. Well done, everyone.
Possibly the coldest netball fixture ever but the Year 7 and 8 netball teams toughed it out at Varndean yesterday. Year 8 had a match against Varndean and really started to click as a team. They showed some great passages of play and the shooters worked brilliantly together. They won the game 9 - 0. The Year 7 team played Varndean and Cardinal Newman. Both challenging but great games with a hardy performance from the team. Well done to all the players, hoping they have all warmed up now!
On Monday 23rd, Daz from Connors 5 charity came in to deliver a thought-provoking presentation and talk. Daz promoted themes such as kindness, care and looking out for one another. Students were left with the following message: to be brave, be bold and be kind.
Year 10 Student Voice students did a fundraiser at breaktimes today and raised £158 to donate to charity - an amazing achievement!
Well done to Year 10 who sat and listened with maturity, respect, and care.
To help prepare for their expedition to eSwatini in July several Year 10 and 11 students went camping on the South Downs this weekend. The students were brilliant and showed great reliance with sleeping outside in 0 degrees! They cooked over trangias, role played different safety situations, and navigated across the countryside. They all worked great as a team and are a credit to Hove Park.
In eSwatini our students will be working in rural areas, helping communities to look after orphans and will explore the wildlife through trekking and a safari.
This week, Hove Park hosted our Girls in STEM ‘Reach for the Stars’ event for the third time, made even bigger and better with the support of the University of Sussex. Twelve schools from across the city joined us for workshops designed to engage and inspire our young scientists and engineers of the future. Activities ranged from neuroscience and the physics of the light telephone to rocket and helicopter‑building workshops with Cardinal Newman and Brighton College sixth formers. The day rounded off with two amazing keynote speakers – Dr Ele D’Elia and Dame Helen Sharman, Britain’s first astronaut. We were over the moon!
Year 7 and 8 students have been working towards an exciting opportunity to perform as part of Hove Park School’s group dance at Let’s Dance 2026, held at Brighton Dome Theatre. The show welcomes all schools and ages across Brighton and Hove to perform to a live audience at this iconic city venue. On Tuesday, 17th March, thirty-two students travelled from the Valley site to the Dome to participate in this wonderful event and showcase their success, creating lifelong memories not only for themselves but also for the audience. Tickets were completely sold out for Tuesday night!
Throughout rehearsals, students have shown commitment, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude towards developing their performance. They have learnt and refined a structured routine, demonstrating key timings, coordination, and spatial awareness. Students have worked effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a group, contributing to the overall quality of their polished performance.
All students have grown in confidence throughout, and this was evident in their final performance on stage in front of a large audience. On the night, Hove Park really did shine, showing greater clarity of movement, expression, focus, and energy than ever before.
Overall, all students should feel proud of their amazing efforts and achievements. It was a wonderful evening where the audience clapped, cheered, and celebrated the accomplishments of all the young people who took part. Our students were fantastic and represented Hove Park School positively in a truly memorable final performance.
Let me know if you would like any further adjustments or a different tone!
Today was a beautiful day for Hove Park School's Fun Run! We had over 300 runners across all year groups who took on the undulating course in wonderful spirits, smiling and dancing their way around.
Many of the runners would have earned their green Every Child Should star as it was their first time running the event, all athletes definitely earned their finishing medals!
This year’s event was fully funded and completely free for all children. If you or someone you know can sponsor next year’s event please email ahunt@hovepark.org.uk

A great evening of basketball for the Year 9 team at PACA last Thursday night, in a tri-tournament against PACA and Cardinal Newman. The boys started brilliantly against PACA with a convincing win and some great shooting from Frank, and solid defence. In our second game, Cardinal Newman proved a strong opposition and ultimately came out on top in the end, despite some outstanding passages of play from Hove Park. Huge potential in this Year 9 Hove Park side, with a combination of experience, competitiveness, height and athleticism. Definitely one to watch for next season.
On Wednesday, Hove Park School was proud to host the Year 9 Netball Tournament, welcoming eight teams from across the city for a fantastic afternoon of competitive netball.
The tournament was played in two pools, with each team competing in a round-robin format before the final standings were decided. We entered two school teams, giving 18 of our Year 9 players the opportunity to represent the school and gain valuable match experience.
After being postponed three times due to poor weather, it was great to finally see the tournament go ahead – and the sun was shining, making it a perfect afternoon for netball.
A huge thank you goes to our Year 10 Sports Leaders, who played a key role in the success of the event. They helped organise keep scores, officiate games and ensure the tournament ran smoothly throughout the afternoon.
The standard of play across all teams was excellent, with great teamwork, defensive interceptions and accurate shooting on display. Our players represented the school brilliantly, showing determination, resilience and great sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Well done to all those who took part, the event was a great success. Hove Park finished in 3rd place overall.
Yesterday we travelled to Patcham for the Year 7 Netball tournament in glorious sunshine before the sea mist set in for the evening. The team were enthusiastic and worked hard as they continued to test out playing in different positions. They played three games, no wins this time but lots of excitement about our next match tomorrow! Well done, team!
Our annual MEP trip to celebrate Chinese New Year in London took place yesterday, with 19 Year 8 students taking part.
We met bright and early at Brighton station before travelling to London Blackfriars. Led by Mr Knox, we headed to the British Museum to explore the Chinese and Korean galleries. Several students impressed us by reading the Chinese captions beneath the exhibits – a skill that neither Mr Knox nor Miss Jeffries could quite match!
After time to marvel at the displays, we made our way to Chinatown for a delicious Chinese meal. Everyone had a go at using chopsticks with varying degrees of success and, although we did our best to finish everything, staff still left with ten boxes of leftovers.
Once we had wished each other a happy new year in Chinese and finished lunch, students had the chance to explore Chinatown, visit a Chinese supermarket and choose a few treats, before we all rounded off the day with bubble tea.
The students were a credit to the school throughout. Both staff and students had a wonderful day – even if the 20,000‑plus steps around our capital might not be quite so popular!
Huge thanks to Miss Qiao for organising such a fantastic trip – we are already looking forward to next year.

A brilliant effort from our swimmers last night in the Brighton Schools Swimming Gala. Some standout performances include the boys in the Year 9/10 freestyle relay, where Percy, Simon, Floyd and Dylan, all from Year 9, came 4th in the 200m freestyle relay against some incredibly strong opposition. The girls’ Year 7 team were also inspirational, and Amalie, Ava, Maebh and Bea all did superbly, swimming up against Year 8 opposition in their events and even helping with Year 9/10 relays. Finally, a huge well done to Tegan for her heat win in the 50m freestyle.
Lovely to see the aquatic talent within the school on display and such positivity from the team and supporting parents poolside on the night. Huge well done to everyone who attended and supported the event!
Year 8 Netball Update.
It was 18 degrees as we arrived at Cardinal Newman for the Year 8 netball tournament, a beautiful day to play netball against all the local schools. Year 8 were stoic and worked hard against some strong teams. They won one game and battled to just miss out on some others. Huge well done to Year 8 who remained positive throughout and were a credit to Hove Park.
World Book Day 2026
All cake donations (homemade or shop bought) gratefully received on Thursday 5th March 2026 – Valley Campus only (Year 7 and 8) – to help raise money for Amaze The Story Trail Book Bench project and to celebrate reading. Students should drop off cakes at the LRC during Tutor time. Many thanks to all our families in advance for supporting this event.
With reading for pleasure in decline, this practical guide offers ten thoughtful ways to reignite children’s enthusiasm for books. From valuing all forms of reading to broadening access to diverse materials, it explores how adults can nurture positive reading habits both at home and in school. Digital tools, audiobooks and augmented reality are also considered as engaging ways to support today’s readers. It also highlights the power of social connection – recommending books, reading together and meeting authors – alongside the importance of modelling reading ourselves. This guide provides supportive, achievable ideas to help young people reconnect with reading and see it as a meaningful part of everyday life.
Seville Trip update - The students spent a long morning at our partner school, where we have worked since 2020. The school welcomed us in their beautiful chapel. The students had a tour of the school and then enjoyed listening to a presentation about Seville, with Austin, Jade and Victoria speaking about Brighton to the Spanish students. This was followed by some students playing football, dancing or playing cards with the Spanish students. We then said goodbye to our friends at Colegio Irlandesas Bami and, on the way home, stopped at the beautiful Plaza de España. Then we walked for half an hour to get churros in a square and in the evening we enjoyed a flamenco show in town.
What would you do if everything changed in a moment?
Our KS4 Book of the Month, explores consent, identity and the strength of friendship in the face of difficult choices.
A powerful, contemporary read — available in the library

Day three of our Seville trip really enriched our students’ cultural knowledge about the Arabic background of Seville. We visited the Alcázar royal palace, where students enjoyed seeing the peacocks and the ducks in the royal gardens, followed by a visit to the spectacular cathedral, which holds the tomb of Christopher Columbus.
The whole group enjoyed climbing to the top of the bell tower, and the day concluded with card games on the beautiful roof terrace of the hostel.
Last week, Year 8 took part in a Lego robotics coding day as part of exploring their possible GCSE options.
The day was themed around the upcoming NASA Artemis expedition. In each workshop, pairs of students built and coded a robot to navigate across the hall. Once they had successfully achieved this, they moved on to the Challenge Mission, tackling eight different tasks including crossing an uneven 'crater', rolling a 'space rock' to a target, and securing and relocating a 'satellite beacon'. As well as developing their coding, the event tested their scientific skills in investigation, adaptation and engineering. Every student showed different strengths across the day, but all demonstrated resilience and aspiration.
The day was made possible by a Neon grant secured by our STEM coordinator, Charlotte Lacny.

Our Year 9 team were in action in the Brighton League against Patcham High School on Monday 26 January. It was a strong and organised team performance.
After going 1-0 down, Hove Park showed great determination and resilience, responding with two well-worked goals. Patcham kept going and managed to grab a late equaliser to make it 2-2.
It was an evenly contested match that neither side deserved to lose. Well done to the whole squad.
The side are next in action in the derby against local rivals Blatchington Mill on Wednesday 4 February.
We were incredibly proud of the Year 10 basketball team last night for their efforts in the Year 10 basketball tournament. Their commitment to playing at training, lunch and break times, in all weathers, has led to this group producing some superb basketball to watch.
In a tournament with 15 teams, Hove Park entered A and B teams in two of the pool groups and arguably played some of the best team basketball on the night. Both teams eventually finished 2nd in their pools and reached the second play-off group, where they both beat Varndean's B side to take 4th and 5th place out of 15 teams. It was an absolute pleasure to see a group of players performing so well and loving the game.
Year 10 students engaged with a coffee making workshop yesterday with @howiescoffeeandco, from Barista Bros. After an inspiring assembly, students were taught how to make an espresso and then froth milk, before showing off their art skills. A great workshop, enjoyed by all who attended! Thanks, Howie and thanks too to our brilliant Enterprise Advisor @michaelgraing
This morning some Year 8 Student Leaders presented to the Year 7 students in assembly to talk about how they can earn their Every Child Should stars. They explained to the Year 7 students how they could earn each star and spoke about their own personal experience of achieving all of their stars last year. Here is also a group of amazing Year 7 students who have already gained three or four Every Child Should stars this year. Incredible!
Faraday Challenge – On Monday, three teams of Year 8 students travelled to BACA to take part in an engineering competition. The challenge was to build a battery-powered car that could travel 3 m and launch an air-powered rocket, whilst incorporating teamwork, project management and design skills.
It was a tough field, but all Hove Park teams led the pack, with one clear winner. A special commendation to Rich, who built in a speed control device which wowed the judges. Our Lego cup will appear in the display cabinet as soon as we have built it!
Roblox is hugely popular with children, offering millions of user-created games and social experiences. This week’s guide explains how the platform differs from traditional video games, and why its scale, self-rating system and automated moderation can expose young users to inappropriate content or unsafe interactions. Aimed at parents, carers and educators, the guide explores concerns including online communication, in-game spending and compulsive play. It also shares practical advice on parent/carer controls, limiting chat and encouraging open conversations, helping adults support children to enjoy Roblox more safely and responsibly.
This evening Year 9 played Blatchington Mill School. Although a tough opposition, the team played some sound netball. Defensively, they put up a strong fight throughout the game and as a result were able to turnover the ball on a number of occasions. Some passing decisions in play let us down a little and meant the opposition took advantage taking back possession. This was a game in which we competed well with great team work throughout. A super group of pupils who are all very keen to play and learn. Despite a loss on this occasion, it was a good warm up run for next week's Year 9 tournament.
Tuesday saw another great night on court with Hove Park Year 7 playing in a 4 team tournament at Dorothy Stringer against Patcham, PACA and Dorothy Stringer. All games were 20 minutes and played in two halves.
A fantastic start saw the team take the opening game against Patcham comfortably, playing great defence and really passing the ball well, eventually winning by 8 points. In the second match the side faced Dorothy Stringer and at times really looked like the better side. A bit more experience and a higher percentage of shooting saw Stringer win the game 22-12. In the final game against PACA Hove Park led from start to finish and looked by far the Stronger team. Well done to everyone involved. Some really committed players in the Year 7 side making so much progress well done to everyone involved and also those that did not play today in the squad. We will rotator the squad round so everyone gets to play in the new year.
More games to come after the Christmas break and Training is every Wednesday 3-4.15 for anyone wanting to get involved.
Year 10 Celebration Assembly
On Tuesday 16th December, we hosted a reward assembly for our Year 10 cohort. We celebrated different successes with Attendance, House Points, Sustainability, School Values and students who are a credit to our Hove Park School community. We also awarded students with the Assistant Head of Year, Head of Year and Head of Campus awards.
Well done to the entire of Year 10 for their mature attitude towards school and a special mention to those students who were recognised with awards.
Wishing our Year 10 students a restful Winter break and we look forward to seeing them in January.
Hove Park School are once again teaming up with Wild in Art to fill our city with colourful, creative, artistic sculptures in the form of book benches!

Yesterday we hosted our annual food fair with students bringing in an incredible array of food from across the world. Thank you so much to all the families who supported this event, it was such a a wonderful way to recognise and celebrate all the different cultures and traditions we have at Hove Park School.
On Wednesday, Year 8 and 10 played their league matches against Dorothy Stringer. Both Year groups have committed teams and were ready for the challenge. Year 10 had a great match taking an early lead and finishing the match with a strong 11-4 win. Year 8 faced a strong, well-drilled Stringer team and despite a really top team effort, lost to the better side on this occasion.
The Year 9 Basketball team played in the City Basketball 3v3 tournament yesterday. Each team played in two separate pools with 12 teams taking part from schools across the city.
Both teams played 5 games in each pool with the Hove Park 'Team B' winning their pool to progress to the tournament finals against Varndean. The final started with both teams scoring one after the other to make the score 4-4. A strong Varndean team then hit two 3 point shots in a row to win the final 10-4 at full time and see Hove Park take 2nd place.
A valiant effort from both teams and all players should be incredibly proud of their performance. Well done to all involved.
Angelique Sabine from Time to Talk Befriending visited Hove Park this week to meet the students who won a competition to design a Christmas card for the charity.
Angelique presented gifts to the winning students and then joined them to write Christmas cards for older members of our local community who are alone at Christmas.
We are very proud of our students for their creativity, kindness and commitment to supporting others, and we are grateful to Time to Talk Befriending for their continued partnership and the meaningful opportunities they provide for our young people.

A great evening of basketball on Friday with Year 10 playing their first league fixtures against Patcham and Dorothy Stringer. It was the perfect chance for these committed players to put their skills to the test in a double game day with two back-to-back games.
In the first game, they came up against some strong opposition from Patcham, which ended 44–28. Hove Park did brilliantly and regrouped for their second game against Dorothy Stringer, which ended 48–26 to Hove Park. There are more fixtures to come for this side after the Christmas break to prepare for the city tournament on Thursday 22nd January. Well done to everyone involved; it is an absolute pleasure to see a group of players developing through playing at training and at every opportunity at break and lunchtime.
These Year 8 Student Leaders have got Jimbo ready for Christmas 🤶!
Jimbo was delighted to see some Year 7's wearing Purple, Red and Bronze Every Child Should Stars! They have been busy with bake sales, helping out at Open Day and representing their house or school in an activity. Amazing! The aim is for Year 7 students to gain all 8 ECS Stars by the end of Year 7.
This year’s Equalities Day at Hove Park School was a great success, with students in Years 7 to 10 taking part in a wide range of activities both in and out of the classroom.
We celebrated diversity through our LGBT assembly and follow-up activities, and Year 8 students enjoyed learning about the Windrush generation in engaging lessons led by Miss Bryan and Mrs Roberts. In the Valley gym, Mr Mack delivered an excellent session on disabled volleyball, helping students to better understand inclusion in sport. There were also valuable opportunities for students to learn more about the challenges faced by those with sensory processing needs.
Alongside our staff-led sessions, we were pleased to welcome external organisations including All Sorts, Gatwick Refugees and Detainees, and Equaliteach. Their workshops throughout the day supported our students to think critically about equality and inclusion, and to understand the importance of rejecting racism in all its forms.
We are proud of how thoughtfully our students engaged with the day and the important themes it explored.
Our caterers have refreshed the school restaurant offer to bring warm, hearty meals for the colder months, alongside fresh, lighter options — all designed to give students variety, balance, and great taste every day.
The new winter menu is full of comforting classics like roast Wednesdays and fish and chips Fridays, as well as tasty vegetarian and vegan dishes that make it easy to eat well.

Our Year 7 girls football team started their season brilliantly with a 3-1 win last Monday in the league against Kings School. Their commitment to training and positivity has been a pleasure from their first training, and getting off to a winning start was a great reward for their efforts!
In their second game last night against Dorothy Stringer, they came up against a very strong side, eventually losing 8-1. The girls should all be very proud of their efforts throughout the game. They showed brilliant resilience, their heads never dropped, and they never stopped working for each other. Well done to all involved.
Yesterday, a group of our Year 8 and Year 9 girls combined forces with PACA and braved the cold to play in the first round of the Sussex Rugby Cup. They played three matches in quick succession, so there will be some tired and achy muscles tomorrow!
The girls got off to a great start, gelling quickly as a team. They beat Stringer with some brilliant individual runs but also some great offloads down the line, working as a team to score some lovely tries. The second game against Varndean was tough. Varndean found some gaps in our defence, although we came back with some great runs down the wing, leading to a close score. The girls finished in style for their final game, beating Patcham with some fantastic tackles and quick reactions to the breakdowns.
The team was made up of some girls who play regular rugby, some who have a little experience and some who have never played. All girls demonstrated the rugby values of resilience and respect, and it was great to see so many girls enjoying the game. They certainly brightened up a grey and cold winter's day with their superb spirit! Well done to them all.
The year 7 and 8 Table tennis players were in action last night against Dorothy Stringer, BACA and Varndean. Hove Park had two teams in the tournament with each player playing against another member of the opposition school in a best of 3 games match. There were some great wins from both teams against strong opposition, which resulted in 3rd place overall for our A team. Both our teams were congratulated for their sportsmanship and game play by the tournament organiser and should be incredibly proud of their performance.
Table tennis runs 3-4.20pm after school every Tuesday and 4.30-5.30pm in a community session for anyone under 16 from surrounding schools.
Congratulations to our Year 8 Basketball players who had two teams at the Town 3v3 tournament that kick started their season. A great effort from everyone involved particularly George and Jacob who played their first game for the side and did a fantastic job. A big thank you to Mr Mill at PACA for organising and hosting these tournaments for the city.
The Year 7 and 8 netball teams played their first matches of the season at Blatchington Mill. It was a baptism of fire in every way except the weather!
Our Year 8 students played two matches and really found their rhythm in the second game, winning 7–2. With so many Year 7 students, we had to do a lot of rotation, which disrupted our flow a little, but everyone gave their best effort. The players are all looking forward to more matches soon (and hopefully warmer ones!).
Year 8 students are pictured (Year 7 headed home quickly to warm up!).
Last week we welcomed our German partners to the second leg of our German Exchange.
On Tuesday, we visited the Pavilion and then took part in a treasure hunt around the Lanes. Students had some free time in the afternoon before we met again for ice skating in the evening, followed by indulgent hot chocolates.
The German students visited London on the Wednesday before visiting our school on the Thursday to experience life at Hove Park for the day. In the afternoon, we settled down to watch the films we had produced together, before enjoying a sumptuous dinner at Donatello’s in the evening.
A huge thank you to Mrs Cox, Mr Waite and Mrs Andrews for helping out again this week – your support was very much appreciated.
Here’s to next year!
Our Year 7 boys did an amazing job tonight at the Year 7 City Tournament. We entered two mixed teams into the 3v3 tournament and both did exceptionally well with one team finishing in 2nd place against the 8 Schools and 12 teams taking part.
An absolute pleasure to watch a group of boys who have come on so far since September with all aspects of their basketball due to their commitment and hard work. They should be incredibly proud of their efforts and how they represent the school on and off the court. Well done to everyone involved.

Year 9 Basketball Vs PACA
A fantastic start to the season for our Year 9 team in their first game against PACA tonight which ended with a win! 67-35 to Hove Park. From the first quarter the team forged ahead and kept stretching the lead through the game. Every member of the team had equal minutes on court in a great team performance all round. All players should all be incredibly proud of their effort, teamwork and sportsmanship. Well done to all involved.

Brazilian students aged 16-17 came into school today to deliver an assembly all about Brazilian life and culture. The students, from the São Paolo area introduced our students to the 5 regions of this huge country on the other side of the world and covered many aspects of their culture including a finale enactment of the capoeira a mixture of half dance half combat. Students were glued to hearing about students of the same age but from totally different backgrounds. Brazilian Portuguese is now the second most popular home language in school and in the local area.
These amazing Year 8 students have embarked upon the Year 8 Student Leader Program! They all earned 8 Every Child Should stars last year and will now work towards their blue student leader badge by helping out at parents evenings and assisting with the running of the Every Child Should scheme in Year 7 and Year 8.
Welcome back! There’s lots to look forward to on the menu, our caterers have refreshed the school restaurant offer to bring warm, hearty meals for the colder months, alongside fresh, lighter options — all designed to give students variety, balance, and great taste every day.
The new winter menu is full of comforting classics like roast Wednesdays and fish and chips Fridays, as well as tasty vegetarian and vegan dishes that make it easy to eat well.
Tonight, we had seven teams contest the Year 7 and 8 inter-house bench ball tournament. As always it was a fiercely competitive event with some brilliant teamwork on display! Congratulations to the Blue team from 8R who took the overall victory with 7R being the winners of the Year 7 competition. Great work from all involved who have earned themselves 5 house points and their bronze Every Child Should badge!
Year 7 had their first Basketball game tonight against PACA putting the skills they learnt over the last half term into action. The team played superbly in a thrilling close game with great effort or defence, strong attacking play and support from the bench. After taking the lead in the first half PACA fought back to win the game 18-17. A brilliant effort from all players who should be really proud of themselves for their performance.
Year 9 Peer Tutors revisited The Grange care home today! They loved seeing some familiar faces and the residents were thrilled seeing our amazing students again. This is a fantastic partnership with The Grange and one we hope to repeat in the future! Well done Year 9 - superb ambassadors for Hove Park School.
At the 22nd Annual Chinese Teaching Conference, held at the UCL Institute of Education on 11 October 2025, educators and researchers gathered under the theme “Evolving Classrooms: Adapting Methods of Mandarin Teaching to Keep Pace with Changing Contexts.” The event celebrated innovation in pedagogy, cross-cultural learning, and the growing role of technology in Mandarin teaching. The opening plenary featured Professor Zhu Hua, Minister Counsellor Zhou Wei, and Professor Zhao Yang, who discussed how Chinese language education can evolve with technological and cultural changes while maintaining strong pedagogical foundations.
A highlight of the day was the Excellence Awards 2025 recognising outstanding contributions to Chinese teaching across the UK. Min Qiao from Hove Park School was honoured as a 2025 Excellence Award winner for her ability to engage and sustain students’ enthusiasm for Mandarin from Year 7 to Year 11 and beyond. Her teaching rests on consistency, mastery of language fundamentals, and strong spoken and written presentation. Her use of digital learning platforms has further elevated student achievement and confidence. Beyond her own classroom, Min contributes as a specialist teacher with the NCLE Language Hubs, supporting the professional growth of fellow educators. Her dedication, innovation, and commitment to student progress exemplify the best of Mandarin education.
The Year 7 Bake Sale was a triumph today! Our students outdid themselves with their bakes and makes!
As part of the inter-house competitions students were selling sweet and savoury treats over break time. They are also raising money for the school show, so we can take the whole of Year 7 to a matinee performance in February.
They made so many goodies that we will be running the bake sale again tomorrow, please encourage students to bring some small change to buy some treats.
Well done Year 7!
On Wednesday, our Year 11 team played their final and farewell tournament of Netball for Hove Park. The talented bunch took to the courts one final time as a team that formed in Year 7, five years ago!
The girls have gone from strength to strength on court over the years and a few have gone on to take GCSE PE, using Netball as one of their practical sports to be moderated in. As well as being fabulous on court, this group are full of personalities and have had many laughs along the way. They have also represented our school as Sports Leaders which they have done with passion and enthusiasm, we have lost count of the amount of times they've made us proud.
A special mention to Hattie, in Year 10, who stepped in last minute to play due to absence. A massive thank you for your amazing performance and outstanding teamwork.
The team came a very respectable 4th place overall in the tournament and displayed nothing but determination until the final whistle.
Yesterday, Year 7 and 8 students took part in a dance workshop run by @southeastdance The workshop was free and focussed on contemporary style dance. The dance teacher commented on how brilliant all the students were and how they picked up everything so quickly. South East Dance were advertising their 'Propel' contemporary dance sessions but this is one of many of the classes that they run for young people. Well done to all students involved today, they were incredible!
If any students are interested in joining Propel, they can try their first class for free on Tuesday 4 November, 5.15pm-6.45pm at The Dance Space.

German Exchange update... The students are having a great time! We all went to the partner school on Tuesday, visited lessons and prepared film scripts, in the evening we went bowling. The next day we went to Black Box, the German film museum and produced our films. They then did a landmark treasure hunt around Düsseldorf before returning to the youth hostel for dinner!
Fresh from the success of the Red Roses at the weekend, Sports Leaders from Hove Park led a primary school rugby festival for eleven local schools.
Over one hundred girls in Year 6 spent an afternoon playing touch rugby, with our Sports Leaders coaching and officiating the games. The Sports Leaders did a fantastic job in motivating the younger students and were incredibly mature and enthusiastic. Well done to our students for being such brilliant role models.
