Welcome to Hove Park School and Sixth Form

As Headteacher of Hove Park, I am committed to making our best better by ensuring that every young person has the right mixture of nurturing, drive and ambition in order to achieve their very best and push the boundaries of what is possible. It will come as no surprise then, that our top two priorities as a school are to:

   Raise Academic Standards
Narrow the Gap between the very best and worst classroom   experience for all of our students

Raising academic standards means improving the percentage of students achieving 5 good GCSE grades including English, Maths and a Science, as we know this has a direct impact on career opportunities. Narrowing the gap is about ensuring that every student, regardless of whatever barriers they may face, has the same access to a world-class education and the same opportunity to succeed.

For as Barack Obama said in his State of the Union Address; "In the 21st Century it's not enough to leave no child behind, we need to help every child to get ahead." I hope that you will join us on that journey and become part of the team that will make a positive difference to young people's lives.
Derek Trimmer, Headteacher

InternationalYear 7 Cross Country champs!

Congratulations to the Year 7 boys Cross-country team who recently won the Brighton & Hove Schools Cross-country championships at Waterhall. Many students  ran, but only the four best finishers counted towards the team event. The quartet of Charlie Watts (1st), Jimi Reece (3rd), Jack Marchant (4th) and Charlie Womersley (13th) meant that Hove Park won the Under 12 event for the first time.

Well done to the rest of the Year 7 team who also finished the race. This included Tom Jupp (18th), Ryan Wilkinson (30th), Max Winter (31st), Radek Zatorski (35th) and Kieron Johnson (36th ). In the Year 8/9 competition, Hove Park’s boys team finished 4th. The pick of the runners were Charlie Gilmour (6th), Alex Divall (7th), Charles Riches (12th) and Morgan James (22nd). Finally, in the Year 10/11 competition, our team consisted of  Ryan Sutton (23rd, Roman Goldsmith (31st) and Todd Tucker (51st).

Well done to all that ran for your commitment and effort in representing the school.

Hove Park gets International Schools Award for third time!
Hove Park has recently been awarded the prestigious International Schools Award for the third time in a row. The Award recognises teachers and their schools who work to instill a strong international flavour into the learning experience of all children and young people. The British Council who made the final decision in early January 2012 commented 'The standard of activity that you have planned is excellent. One activity that particularly stood out was the Chinese across the curriculum, it is very interesting, well done!'

Mock Results Day
Year 11 had a glimpse at the future last week as they collected their mock exam results and predicted grades. Dressed to impress the students looked smart and professional as they waited to find out the contents of the all important envelope. They also had mock interviews with volunteers from the local business community. One student commented; "It was a really useful day as I've learned how to present myself in an interview and also that I need to revise more for the summer."
