History
Access to deeper learning in History
In History we ask open questions, designed to encourage higher order thinking and get students to make links between different factors or time periods. Our questioning in lessons is differentiated, to ensure that all students are stretched and given opportunities to explore different opinions, create debate and contribute. In lesson activities we use challenge and super challenge activities to give students more scope to stretch themselves. Students are often given a choice of how to feedback their work to allow for more creative pieces of work. At KS3 we give some longer homework projects, sometimes with a choice of focus – allowing students to research and become immersed in a topic that really interests them. At KS4 and 5 we are stretching students to achieve the highest grades with differentiated activities, revision materials and challenge sections on our iTunesu courses.

Extended project work
Each subject at HPS aims to provide our HPA community with an insight into acquiring the key skills needed to prepare for EPQ type projects at A Level. These projects are designed to develop core skills required in the workplace closely linked to subjects that interest our HPA students. Follow the link here to access the subject-specific projects we are offering to students from September 2020.
About EPQ after GCSE?
An EPQ provides further academic stretch and challenge alongside A Level studies and also helps to evidence a genuine interest in a specific area (which is useful for UCAS university applications). An EPQ also carries UCAS points and is valued at 50% of a full A Level in the UCAS tariff.
