♻️ Our Mission
We are committed to fostering a culture of sustainability through education, innovation, and collaboration. Our goal is to reduce our environmental footprint while inspiring lifelong responsibility for the planet.
We are a leading school in the fully-funded Brighton and Hove Council “Our City, Our World” climate change, sustainability and environmental education programme. Below is how we intend to grow, adapt and future proof our educational provision for our young people and our staff community.
🌍 What We're Doing
Here are some of the ways we're making a difference:
- Eco-Friendly Campus: The roofs at both Valley and Nevill campuses are homes to solar arrays which are part of the Brighton Energy Cooperative. We've implemented energy-efficient lighting, water-saving fixtures, and recycling stations throughout the school. We monitor our energy consumption using Energy Sparks, a bespoke school initiative.
- Green Curriculum: Sustainability is woven into our curriculum with a dedicated tutor time each week looking at issues from energy use and biodiversity, to green careers. We want to enable our students to develop vital knowledge and oracy skills, and engage in critical thinking which help them to contribute to sustainability and climate change in their lives and future jobs, and to become active citizens of the future.
- Student-Led Projects: We have Eco Clubs for KS3 & 4, leading initiatives like litter picks, tree planting, and awareness campaigns that engage the whole school. We have held an EcoSchools Green Flag since 2024.
- Biodiversity: We have a flourishing garden on the Valley site, where students can take part in weekly gardening enrichment sessions. At the Nevill campus we are rewilding part of the site and introduced an outside classroom, funded by a grant from the South Downs Trust.
- Waste Reduction:
We promote compostable and reusable containers, on-site recycling, and aim to eliminate single-use plastics.

STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
At Hove Park, we’re proud to be at the forefront of STEM education in Brighton and Hove. We’re committed to making STEM accessible to all, through trips, workshops and clubs. We collaborate with other schools both through our Ogden Trust partnership and our Reach for the Stars programme – open to all the secondaries in the city, we host a week-long event to inspire young women and trans students through hands-on workshops, talks and visits to the University of Sussex.
We believe that curiosity is the spark of innovation. Our STEM Enrichment programme is designed to ignite that spark by offering students exciting opportunities to explore beyond the classroom. Through hands-on learning, real-world challenges, and collaborative projects, students develop the skills and confidence to shape tomorrow’s world.
🚀 OGDEN TRUST
We are the lead school for the Brighton & Hove School Partnership for the Ogden Trust, Britain’s leading physics charity. This offers the most up-to-date training in physics for our teachers and technicians, enrichment opportunities for our students, and collaboration with our partner schools.
🧠 What We Offer
- Stargazing and Astrocamp: In partnership with Longhill High School, students get the chance to take part in stargazing. New for 2025, we will take part in Astrocamp – where students get the chance to camp out under the stars and explore the night skies with the support of astronomers from Brighton Astro.
- STEM Clubs: Weekly sessions for KS3 and 4, where students tackle a range of challenges from building and coding Lego robots, investigating insects as sustainable food, dissection skills or a range of engineering challenges.
- Guest Speakers & Workshops: Industry professionals and university researchers share insights and lead interactive sessions – including Ricardo, GlaxoSmithKline, Brighton Energy, and the Engineering Development Trust.
- Competitions & Challenges: Students participate in national contests like the UK Maths Challenge, Faraday Challenge and CREST awards.
- STEM Trips: Students learn about innovation and careers through visits to science museums, tech companies, and research labs to see STEM in action. Opportunities include the University of Sussex, Ricardo, Williams Racing Team, and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland.
🌟 Why It Matters
STEM skills are essential for the future of work and innovation. Our programme helps students:
• Develop critical thinking and analytical skills
• Learn to collaborate and communicate effectively
• Gain exposure to emerging technologies
• Discover potential career paths in STEM fields
