Subject Knowledge Enhancement Courses (SKE)
Subject Knowledge Enhancement Courses (SKEs)
SKE courses are intended to boost teacher trainees' subject knowledge prior to teacher training to enabling successful progression to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and PGCE. These free courses are particularly useful for those whose academic background omits aspects of their chosen specialist subject at a level necessary for teaching it in secondary schools. To be eligible to apply for a Subject Knowledge Enhancement course you must first have accepted an offer of a School Choice/School Connect or PGCE place. If you would benefit from following an SKE course this will be highlighted during your University stage interview and you may be offered a place conditional on successfully completing a course before beginning your teacher training course.
SKE Courses available locally
SKE courses of varying lengths are available at both our partner universities in a range of subject specialisms; Maths, English, Modern Languages, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Classics. They are designed to be completed in the academic year before you begin your teacher training.
