PE

Access to deeper learning in PE

In Physical Education, we use differentiated drills and competitive activities to stretch and challenge our HPA students. We have a thriving extracurricular programme; and we encourage our HPA students to attend so that they can spend more time on skill acquisition, and play at a higher competitive level against other schools. We have been represented on both a local, county and sometimes national level, including being national cup finalists for Football. We also have stong links with local clubs, and ensure our HPA students are aware of the performance pathways to the next level. In GCSE PE Theory, differentiated work is provided to stretch & challenge our most able students. Students are guided to answer exam questions that require a deeper level of evaluation & analysis. Extension tasks are provided for all Specification topics.

Extended project work

Each subject at HPS aims to provide our HPA community with an insight into acquiring the key skills needed to prepare for EPQ type projects at A Level. These projects are designed to develop core skills required in the workplace closely linked to subjects that interest our HPA students. Follow the link here to access the subject-specific projects we are offering to students from September 2020.

About EPQ after GCSE?

An EPQ provides further academic stretch and challenge alongside A Level studies and also helps to evidence a genuine interest in a specific area (which is useful for UCAS university applications). An EPQ also carries UCAS points and is valued at 50% of a full A Level in the UCAS tariff.
